Community Employment (CE)

What is CE Scheme?

The CE is a DEASP Employment Programme which has been designed to assist people who are long-term unemployed and other disadvantaged people to get back to work by offering part-time and temporary placements in jobs based within local communities.

During the placement, participants are encouraged to seek permanent or part-time jobs elsewhere based on the experience and new skills they have gained through the training and development opportunities they have achieved in their chosen career path while on a scheme.

CE Eligibility

Please refer to your local DEASP office to check your eligibility to participate on CE. In general, you should be in receipt of a DEASP payment in your own right for a period of no less than 12 months. More information on eligibility can be found at Gov.ie

Feedback from our CE participants:

“I  started on my CE scheme on the 29th June 2015 in the YMCA in Aungier St. From the very start I felt at ease with everyone and enjoyed my role first as Ann’s PA and then later I went onto reception. I have learnt a great deal since I have been here. Ann has always been there to help out if I had any problems or concerns. I started my scheme at a time when my confidence was at an all time low as I had not worked for a long time, because I was rearing my young son at that time. In my 3 years on the scheme I have only positive things to say. I finished the CE scheme in June this year and I am happy to say the YMCA offered me a full time position which I am currently doing and loving”.

“Doing a CE scheme in the YMCA has been great. Everyone has been helpful and friendly. I started off working in reception but when I decided to follow my passion and move into fitness they were nothing but supportive of me, and were happy for me to be part of the team.”
