Childcare – Our Approach
YMCA Childcare provides full and part-time quality and affordable child care for children aged 6 months to 12 years, in Dublin’s city centre. We are committed to standards of excellence and giving children the best start in life. Our modern, purpose-built facility is located on Aungier Street and is open from 8am – 5.30pm.
We have seven rooms in our crèche as well as a safe outdoor area which is used throughout the day by all the age groups. Children have access to a large sports hall and dancing studio which is great especially on rainy days. We are also a fully catered crèche, with all our meals freshly prepared onsite.
Working together in partnership with parents, we provide a safe and promoting environment, where children feel valued. We promote respect towards self, others and the environment. We promote independence through a wealth of learning opportunities, both structured and flexible. This enables children to achieve their goals and promote their self-esteem.
We are committed to meeting the childcare needs of families who choose to access our service, including children and families with special needs. We employ qualified childcare staff and provide initial and ongoing training. We continually challenge ourselves to improve our service and promote best practice.
YMCA Childcare aims to ensure that through its work with children each child will be:
- Welcomed in a safe and caring environment with a happy and friendly atmosphere.
- Afforded an opportunity to work with activities which are creative, fun and stimulating.
- Given praise and encouragement in an atmosphere where opportunities to succeed and positive behaviour are promoted.
- Encouraged to develop both a respect of, and understanding of, their environment and their peers.
- Given the opportunities to realise their full potential and learn new skills, in conjunction with developing their self-confidence and a positive self image.
- Listened to and regarded as individuals where their feelings and opinions are taken into consideration and valued.
YMCA Childcare celebrates childhood through play, creative experience, music, physical activity, educational exploration, fun and laughter in line with the overall YMCA ethos of holistic development in mind, body and spirit.
Nutrition
YMCA Childcare believes that good health and adequate nutrition in the early years helps to safeguard your child’s well-being throughout their life. Therefore we encourage children in our care to develop healthy eating habits.
Our chef provides children with nutritious, freshly cooked and delicious meals every day. We do not add any salt or other additives to our meals. We cater for vegetarian diets and any other dietary requirements your child may have.
Mealtimes play an important role in your child’s daily routine and provide great opportunities for your child to practice their social, language and self-help skills. We make every effort to allow your child adequate time to taste and enjoy their food, make choices and to interact with their friends and adults alike to ensure that the mealtimes are a pleasant and relaxed experience.
Sport
Here at YMCA
We understand the importance of your child being active and the benefits of physical activities for them. We support your child in developing their fundamental movement skills and ensure that your child has a positive experience out of being active.
While attending our service your child will have an opportunity to freely play in our outdoor area. They will have access to a large sports hall where they can freely run, jump, play football and basketball. We have a dancing studio, where children get to dance to their favourite music and it is great for them, especially on rainy days.
We offer a number of extracurricular activities to children in our care, such as Sprog soccer and Gymboree.
