As part of Charity Trustees Week, YMCA Dublin is delighted to continue to highlight the invaluable work of our Board of Trustees, each of whom brings unique expertise and commitment to our mission. Today, we’re spotlighting Madhumita Vasan, a dedicated board member who serves on the Finance Committee. With over a decade of experience in the audit industry, Madhumita’s background as a chartered accountant brings a strategic, analytical perspective that helps ensure YMCA Dublin’s financial health and sustainability.
Reflecting on her journey to YMCA Dublin, Madhumita shares, “YMCA has a great reputation for helping in society and is a long-standing association. I wanted to make a difference and help in any way I could, and when I heard this position was available at YMCA, it felt like the perfect match.” Driven by a desire to create a positive impact, Madhumita joined the board to contribute her skills to an organisation she felt closely aligned with her values.
Since joining, Madhumita has found deep fulfilment in hearing stories of YMCA Dublin’s positive impact on young lives and families. Though her work on the Finance Committee is often behind the scenes, these stories remind her of the organisation’s reach and the importance of the board’s role. “Hearing how YMCA Dublin has transformed the lives of many children and young people has been one of the most fulfilling experiences,” she says. “Even though I’m far removed from the daily action, the organisation’s impact is visible.”
Madhumita’s background in financial reporting and audit oversight has been invaluable to YMCA Dublin as it plans for sustainable growth. “Taking a bird’s-eye view helps us assess larger challenges and provides unbiased direction,” she explains. As a member of the Finance Committee, she works with the board to ensure financial stability while exploring opportunities for expansion, keeping YMCA Dublin’s mission and values at the forefront.
Inclusivity is a core YMCA Dublin value that resonates closely with Madhumita, who knows firsthand the importance of feeling welcomed. “Being Indian and raised in Kuwait before moving to Ireland, feeling welcomed is something everyone aspires to,” she reflects. She highlights the Reidh Programme as a powerful example of this value in action, noting how it supports refugees, asylum seekers, and other newcomers as they settle into various aspects of their new life. “It’s all about focusing on their present and future,” she adds.
Looking ahead, Madhumita envisions YMCA Dublin continuing to grow as a place of support, resilience, and belonging. “My hope is that YMCA Dublin can be everyone’s safe haven, a place for everyone and anyone,” she shares. “I want to see it grow, reach all corners, and touch the lives of people across Dublin.”
For anyone considering a similar role, Madhumita offers thoughtful advice: “If you get a chance to make a difference, to help in any way you can, take it. It might take time, but it’s time worth taking.”
Through her dedication, expertise, and unique perspective, Madhumita Vasan embodies the spirit of YMCA Dublin’s mission. We are grateful to have her on our team, helping build a solid foundation for YMCA Dublin’s continued growth and positive impact in the community.
Stay tuned this week to meet more of our dedicated board members as we continue celebrating Charity Trustees Week!
